Everyone loses. A well-known high school orchestra who has for years performed an annual Christmas concert that raised more than $200,000 annually for the poor in Africa has canceled their holiday performance four days short of its scheduled date because of a group protesting the involvement of a church that handles ticket sales for the event.
What makes this especially stupid is the argument from Mitch Kahle, founder of the Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church, who in the local media says: “”The issue here is an entanglement between a public school and a Christian church. And one of the things about the constitution is that it prohibits the involvement of public schools and churches.”
The Constitution, of course, says no such thing.
