A shop named Steve Johns Shoes Limited has displayed a controversial Christmas advertisement in which a reindeer appears to be taking drugs in the form of white powder. This has sparked a dispute in the city about whether the advertisement is promoting drugs. The store is located on Bernard Avenue with storefront windows saying “ho ho ho, let it blow.” In addition to the white powder on the table, there also appears to be a razor blade as well as a rolled up dollar bill.

In the interior, a Christmas tree is decorated with bags of white powder on its branches. Residents in the city have been infuriated and have stated that it is very inappropriate. When Paul Barrett, a pedestrian walking down Bernard Avenue saw the store’s advertisement, he took pictures of the display. “It was kind of appalling,” Barrett said. “It was basically set up with what looks like cocaine hanging from baggies in a Christmas tree,” said Paul. “Other than the Christmas tree, it has got nothing to do with Christmas. I looked for signs to see if maybe it had some kind of message against drugs and I did not see that. It was more for drugs and about how you do these drugs and I was quite appalled, I do not know what it is advertising but it is certainly not advertising shoes, there are kids that are walking by this. It is a very low window. It is saying basically, this is what you need to do cocaine,” Paul continued.

Gone is the nasty word “Holiday”. Let the party begin.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has told AFA that “Christmas” will become a huge part of their advertising beginning November 28.

According to Vice-Chairman Bill Columbo, in a phone conference with AFA today, “We have made significant changes from past years, when ‘holiday’ was the dominant theme of our advertising.” Mr. Columbo told AFA that these changes were already in the works prior to AFA’s boycott announcement. He apologized for not returning AFA’s phone calls and letters earlier to convey this message.

Dick’s issued a statement to AFA and its pro-Christmas supporters, outlining their plans to incorporate “Christmas” in their advertising:

- Beginning November 28, Sunday newspaper inserts will read “Christmas 2010.” It will continue each Sunday through Christmas.

- Dick’s website will display the Christmas message prior to the first insert (next week) in time for Thanksgiving day.

- Television commercials running after November 28th will also refer to Christmas season.

As a result of Dick’s response, AFA is cancelling the boycott.

It is amazing to see the culture change that is occurring inside corporate board rooms. All across America, companies are coming to realize they should include Christ and Christmas in their advertising

Now that the American Family Association has won this battle, it can focus on these retailers who STILL refuse to use the word Christmas in their marketing campaigns this holiday…er, Christmas…season:

Barnes & Noble
CVS Pharmacy
Office Depot
Radio Shack
Staples
SUPERVALU
Victoria’s Secret

<g:plusone href="http://defendchristmas.com/2010/11/10/liberty-council-announces-annual-list-of-retailers-who-wont-say-christmas/"></g:plusone>

The Florida based pro-life, Christian legal organization Liberty Council has officially launched its eighth annual “Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign” aimed at combating the censorship of Christmas in today’s secularist culture.

In an announcement, Liberty Council highlighted its work over the past several years in educating people about their freedom to celebrate “Christmas” instead of the generic “winter holiday.” According to the group, it has overturned a number of “grinch-like” decisions, including rulings against nativity scenes on public property, the singing of Christmas carols by elderly members of nursing homes, and the censoring of words from Christmas carols by school officials.

As part of its efforts, Liberty Council offers a number of resources on its website for “Friends” of Christmas. Among the information on its site, Liberty Council offers two legal memos outlining the rights U.S. citizens have to celebrate Christmas. The first memo aims to educate citizens to their rights regarding the public celebration of Christmas, including the celebration of Christmas by teachers in public schools. The second memo instructs those in the work place regarding their rights.

The group has also published a “Naughty or Nice” list detailing those retailers who are not afraid to promote “Christmas” and those who opt for the politically correct “holiday.” Notable retailers that use the word “Christmas” repeatedly on their site include Big Lots, Cracker Barrell, Home Depot, Macy’s, and Sears among others.

Several large names landed on the “Naughty” side of the list, though. The clothing retailer Gap was put on the list for not promoting “Christmas” in its stores and several of its advertisements. The electronics store “Radio Shack” also ended up on the list after a search of its sight revealed that the word “Christmas” did not appear anywhere.

Mathew D. Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel remarked about the “Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign”: “Renaming a Christmas tree to a holiday tree, stopping students from wearing red and green, and censoring religious Christmas carols are absurd, but true, examples of the war against Christmas.”

“If a government entity censors Christmas in violation of the Constitution, then we will first seek to educate but, if necessary, we will litigate. If retailers choose to profit from Christmas while pretending it does not exist, then we will patronize their competitors.”

<g:plusone href="http://defendchristmas.com/2010/10/20/woolworths-pulls-christian-magazines-spurs-boycott/"></g:plusone>

Woolworths’ (a UK department store) decision to pull Christian magazines Lig, Leef, Joy and Juig from its shelves, has caused outrage among some of their customers.

Customers have taken to the Woolworths Facebook fan page to show their disapproval of this decision, saying sarcastically the chain should also not display or sell any products related to Christmas and Easter, as these are Christian holidays.

Earlier, Beeld newspaper reported the removal of these Christian magazines from Woolworths’ shelves and threats by some customers boycott the chain.

Woolworths CEO Simon Susman told the newspaper they are reviewing all magazines the store sells and will continue to remove titles that are not popular with the customers.

“I would like to state irrevocably that I will not shop at Woolworths again until you replace Christians magazines on your shelves. It seems as if you do not mind offending Christians (or our wallets!) Are you going to remove all marketing for Christmas and Easter because these are after all Christian holidays,” said a customer.

One user said in the battle of “God vs. Woolworths” he choses God, and that this is a sign it’s the end of the world.

Other users said that there are a lot of Christians who shop at Woolworths, and their decision to not buy there will be felt financially.

Another customer said even if the magazines are brought back, they will not shop at Woolworths again.

Someone else added that popular magazine Finesse should still be stocked, and asked that not all Christian magazines be removed.

Another customer said it’s clearly a business decision as there is no money from the sale of these titles, and that people who usually buy these magazines, can get it from another store.

Not all commenters agreed with the boycott, with one saying: “I think everyone, especially Christians, should learn about tolerance. This makes me so angry. I dont know why Christians think they better then any other religion! Its time to go back to basics people… WWJD??????? Not cause such an uproar.. and forget all his values…”

After all, they are the center of Hollywood, so they undoubtedly see a whole lot of weird things. However, a Christmas window display at the clothing store Madison has somehow managed to get the locals riled up, if only due to the content.

Madison’s Christmas decorations are a nativity scene; specificaly, a slutty Virgin Mary mannequin provocatively posed with a golden baby Jesus, with three sexy wise men looking on.

Where is the ACLU now?
