Atheists Attack in Times Square

American Atheists pull no punches: in Times Square they have erected a billboard that declares “Nobody needs Christ in Christmas”.

If that isn’t an attack on religion we don’t know what is. It showcases what we’ve been saying for years about the war on Christmas being just a front in the greater overall war on religion. The “war on Christmas” isn’t about Christmas — it is about religion and opposing it. Period.

This hateful, mean-spirited, and bigoted kind of intolerance should be condemned. It is not only offensive to Christians but also to atheists who celebrate Christmas. After all, as American Atheists themselves point out, many atheists celebrate Christmas.

We would once again point out that atheists are distorting the history of Christmas by claiming “Many so-called ‘Christmas’ traditions celebrated by Americans have nothing to do with Christianity. For example, the North Pole and Santa traditions come from Nordic and Germanic pagan traditions, and caroling, yule logs, mistletoe, holly wreaths all pre-date Christianity.”

Christmas pre-dates Christianty.

American Atheists are lying when they try to represent paganism as devoid of god. The Winter Solstice in many societies was anciently god-based, with theology not too dissimilar to Christianity. Where do they think pagans got their ideas of God in the first place? To embrace the thought they were godless is wildly erroneous.

This insidious element in the war on Christmas is an abomination and should be condemned by Christmas-loving fans regardless of their religious persuasion or even their lack of faith.
